Greatest Test Players by Position

Each list shows the top 50 players in a position from the Beat My 11 database, ranked by our ratings and using full Test career numbers. The best ten have a short profile that explains why they are there.

Each position is judged on its own job. Openers, middle-order batters and wicketkeepers are ranked on their batting, spinners and fast bowlers on their bowling, and all-rounders on both together. Long careers count for more than short ones, and a brilliant short career is pulled back toward the average, because a handful of Tests proves little. Read more on the how it works page.

The lists are a starting point for an argument, not the last word: statistics cannot capture a great captain, a big-match temperament or conditions that favoured one era. Use them to find names for your own draft.
